EMERSON DRIVE RESIDENCE

The design for the Emerson Drive Residence conveys an awe-inspiring vision of luxury. Almost like a house straight out of the movies, the residence showcases the maximum potential of the lot and positions both water and architecture as transformative devices.

On the western beachfront elevation, three levels of pools dramatically pour into one another, creating a waterfall at the center of the home. Here, water serves an untraditional role as a shading device—an “aqua soleil,” a play on the brise soleil concept. Expansive overhangs mimic the horizontal nature of the coastline and beach.

Residents can right walk out and swim laps in the upper pools, which feature acrylic bottoms that filter light below, casting cooling blue light and shimmering patterns across the facade. Lush hanging gardens, which utilize a rainwater/grey water system for irrigation, contribute to the feeling of a tropical oasis on the beach.

Pushing the building envelope to the next level, the cantilevered pool enclosures are supported by a galvanized steel super structure. The home is tectonic in nature with the steel structure intentionally expressed to accentuate the essential connections.
